Why You Might See a PBL Listing When Checking Your IP

  • What Is a PBL?

A Policy Block List (PBL) is managed by Spamhaus, a trusted international organisation that helps prevent spam.

It lists IP address ranges that shouldn’t send mail directly to other mail servers on the Internet. These are typically home or small-business connections, where mail is meant to go through the provider’s outgoing mail server instead.

Why You’re Seeing a PBL Listing

If you or your ISP use a dynamic IP address (one that changes often), that IP will usually appear on the PBL.

This doesn’t mean your IP is blacklisted or that your email is blocked. It’s just how the internet protects mail servers from spam that could come from infected devices.

Does This Affect My Mweb Email?

    No, it doesn’t.
Mweb’s mail servers are designed to send your mail securely.

A PBL listing only becomes an issue if you try to send email directly from your device to another mail server, instead of through Mweb’s outgoing mail server.

As long as you send through smtp.mweb.co.za, your mail will work normally.

    Check Your Mail Settings

Make sure your Mweb mail account uses these settings:

    SettingValue
    Outgoing serversmtp.mweb.co.za
    Port587
    AuthenticationON
    UsernameYour full Mweb email address
    EncryptionSTARTTLS (if available) or None

Some email programs will automatically use STARTTLS.
Others might connect with no encryption and still work correctly.
Both are supported by Mweb’s mail servers.

    Example of a PBL Message

You might see something like this when checking your IP:

Your IP address is listed in the Spamhaus PBL.
This IP address is not supposed to deliver unauthenticated email directly to mail servers.

That message just means your internet connection uses standard broadband IPs, not that you’re blacklisted.

    In Short

A PBL listing is normal for most internet users.
It doesn’t mean there’s a problem with your Mweb service or your email settings.
Just make sure you’re using smtp.mweb.co.za on port 587 with authentication enabled.
