Who Does What – FNO vs ISP

  • Understanding the Roles Behind Your Fibre Connection

When it comes to fibre internet, two main players work together to get you connected: the Fibre Network Operator (FNO) and the Internet Service Provider (ISP). Here’s what each one does, and how Mweb makes it better.

  • 🪢 FNO (Fibre Network Operator)

    Example: Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot

Your FNO installs and manages the physical fibre infrastructure, the cables, boxes, and ONT (that little device mounted on your wall). Think of them as the landlord of the fibre network in your area.

    They handle:

    • Laying the fibre cables underground or on poles

    • Installing the fibre box inside your home (ONT)

    • Fixing any breaks or faults in the fibre line

    • Scheduling installation or repair visits

  • 🌐 ISP (Internet Service Provider)

    Example: Mweb (that’s us)

We supply the actual internet connection over the FNO’s fibre lines, and we make it simple, reliable, and backed by real support.
