We're strengthening the security of Mweb email addresses to help prevent scammers from sending messages that appear to come from legitimate Mweb mailboxes.
This change affects both @iafrica.com and @mweb.co.za email addresses.
When is this changing?
The enhanced email security will take effect on:
- @iafrica.com: 1 September 2026
- @mweb.co.za: 15 September 2026
After these dates, email providers such as Gmail and Outlook will more strictly check whether messages sent from these addresses are legitimate.
Messages that don't pass these security checks may be delivered to the recipient's Spam or Junk folder instead of their inbox.
Do I need to do anything?
For most customers, no action is required.
You're already covered if you send email using:
- Mweb Webmail
- Microsoft Outlook
- Apple Mail
- Your phone or tablet's mail app
- Another email application that connects directly to your Mweb mailbox
You only need to make changes if you send email from your @mweb.co.za or @iafrica.com address through another system or service, such as:
- Sage or another accounting or invoicing system
- Your website or online shop
- Gmail's Send mail as feature
- Mailchimp
- SendGrid
- Another bulk email service
Using an accounting system, website or other SMTP application?
Make sure the system sends email through Mweb's outgoing mail server using the following settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Outgoing server | smtp.mweb.co.za |
| Port | 587 |
| Security | TLS / STARTTLS |
| Username | Your full @mweb.co.za or @iafrica.com email address |
| Password | Your usual mailbox password |
These settings apply to both @mweb.co.za and @iafrica.com email addresses.
Using Gmail's "Send mail as" feature?
Gmail should be configured to send messages through Mweb's outgoing mail server.
- Open Settings in Gmail.
- Select Accounts and Import.
- Find Send mail as and edit your Mweb or iafrica.com address.
- Choose to send through an SMTP server.
- Use the following settings:
SMTP server: smtp.mweb.co.za
Port: 587
Security: TLS / STARTTLS
Username: Your full @mweb.co.za or @iafrica.com email address
Password: Your usual mailbox password
Save your changes and complete Gmail's verification process if prompted.
Using Outlook.com or iCloud Mail?
If you're using another online email service to send messages as your @mweb.co.za or @iafrica.com address and it can't send through Mweb's SMTP server, rather add your Mweb mailbox directly to your preferred email application.
When sending a message, select your Mweb or iafrica.com email address from the From field.
Using Mailchimp, SendGrid or another bulk email service?
Bulk email services can't send through Mweb's outgoing mail server.
Instead:
- Use an email address on a domain that you own as the From address.
- You can still use your @mweb.co.za or @iafrica.com address as the Reply-To address.
This means replies can still reach your Mweb mailbox while ensuring messages are correctly authenticated.
How can I test my email?
After making any changes:
- Send a test email to a Gmail or Outlook address that you can access.
- Check that the message arrives in the inbox.
If the message goes to the Spam or Junk folder, check that the system you're using is configured with the correct outgoing email settings.
Keep your account secure
Never share your Mweb email password with anyone.
Mweb will never ask you to send us your password or enter it using a link sent to you by email, WhatsApp or Telegram.
Only enter your password directly into your email application, device or trusted service settings.
